This is a very embryonic FAQ.
1. Why do I need the SMTP server proxy?
So that Spambam can keep your Greenlist up to date with
the addresses of all the people you send e-mail to
2. I've just started Spambam up, why isn't it doing
anything?
Spambam is waiting for you mail client to connect to it
with POP3. Once your client has sent the USER and PASS commands
Spambam will have enough information to connect to your real POP3
server and get your mail.
3. My copy of exchange can't filter.
OK point your browser at http://www.mokry.cz/exchange/index.htm
and get Exlife. This is an excellent shareware add on for
Microsoft exchange that will allow you to filter your incoming
messages and eg. place all the mail marked by Spambam in a
separate folder.
4. I may as well just filter it myself huh?
Sure, but remember that Spambam has over 2300 filters on
it's Blacklist and is growing every day so happy typing. It also
only takes milliseconds to check a piece of mail and it does this
while waiting on the server to download the next piece of mail.
Also, because we update Spambam's Blacklist from a number of
different sources we can have new spam domains on the master
Blacklist before the spammers have even used it!
5. My mailing lists keep getting marked as SPAM!
This is because they are not mailed to you directly. What you'll have to do is add a special entry in your greenlist for each mailing list you subscribe to. If your mailing list messages have the name of the list added to the subject eg, messages have a subject like "[rc5-dudes] [ANNOUNCE] [ADMIN] distributed.net Design Contest" (This is an example from the rc5-dudes list) try adding a filter to your greenlist that looks like this
Subject: [rc5-dudes]
If your mailing list does not mark the subject you might try adding a greenlist filter on the e-mail address the mail is sent from. Eg, The Australian's e-mail headline service is sent from the account owner-news@theaustralian.com.au but has no particular subject pattern. In this case you would be best to add the following line to your greenlist.
owner-news@theaustralian.com.au
Then the e-mail would pass based on the sender: from: or Reply-to: headers.
6. How do I uninstall Spambam.
If the Spambam11.zip you have includes the program SpambamRegUndo.exe run it and it will undo any changes made to your mail program allowing it to run without Spambam. Then just delete the C:/Program Files/Spambam directory (or wherever you've installed Spambam) and any Shortcuts to spambam (eg. in Start/Programs/Startup).
If you don't have SpambamRegUndo.exe you can obtain it from our web site using this link. http://www.epage.com.au/spambam/SpambamRegUndo.zip
